During a trip to Japan, we stepped into a small matcha shop tucked away from the noise. It was quiet. Peaceful. Everything slowed down as we watched matcha being prepared with care. The aroma, the whisking, the warmth — it felt different. Calmer. Deeper.
Later that day, sitting with our matcha in hand, we looked at each other and said,
“Why does this feel so rare? Why can’t we have this at home?”
That memory stayed with us. It became the seed of something more. We didn’t set out to start a brand. We simply wanted to share that quiet joy with others.
What UKIYO means
Ukiyo (浮世) is a Japanese word that has changed over time. It once described the struggles of daily life — a world we must endure. But as the years passed, especially during the Edo period, the meaning shifted.
It came to represent the fleeting beauty of life. A floating world. A moment of art, pleasure, or calm that passes like a gentle breeze.
To us, ukiyo is a reminder to slow down, take a breath, and be fully present. Matcha helps us do that. It’s not just a drink. It’s a pause. A quiet ritual for the everyday.

We work with a small family-owned farm in Shimane, Japan. This region is known for its pure water, clean air, and long tradition of tea cultivation.
